Ansible Workbench decides which YAML files are Ansible (roles, playbooks, group_vars, host_vars, inventories, and files whose top level is a list of plays) and works only there. Kubernetes manifests, GitHub and GitLab workflows, Compose files and Helm charts stay plain YAML, and you can add your own include and exclude globs.
Roles anywhere. Ctrl+click a role in roles:, include_role (short or ansible.builtin. form) or
dependencies: and land in its tasks/main.yml, even when roles live in nested folders or in
collections/ansible_collections.
Variables you can follow. Ctrl+click {{ http_port }} to reach its definition in role defaults or vars,
group_vars, host_vars, YAML or INI inventories, play vars, set_fact or register; Find Usages lists every
{{ }} and when: that reads it.
Vault without leaving the editor. View encrypted files and inline !vault values decrypted; edit them and
they are re-encrypted with your own ansible-vault when you save. Passwords come from your password file or a
prompt and are never stored.
Run playbooks. A gutter icon on the first play creates an ansible-playbook run configuration with inventory,
limit, tags, check mode, diff and extra vars.
Price, stated up front. Free forever: detection, completion, documentation, lint and Vault viewing. Paid plan: USD 39/year individual, USD 79/year per user commercial, with JetBrains' free trial.
